What Is Rosacea?

Rosacea is a chronic but treatable skin condition that primarily affects the cheeks, nose, chin and forehead which become flushed and red.

Very often rosacea develops in your 30s and the redness tends to become ruddier and more persistent as you age. Visible blood vessels may also appear as you mature and, in severe cases, (particularly in men) the nose may grow swollen and bumpy.

Around 50 per cent of rosacea sufferers say their eyes also feel irritated and appear watery or bloodshot.

People with fair skin who tend to flush or blush easily are believed to be at greatest risk of developing rosacea. There is also evidence that rosacea may run in families, and may be prevalent in people of northern or eastern European descent.

The goal of Rosacea Awareness Month is to spread public education so more people with rosacea seek help before it gets worse, but also to educate others so they have more understanding of rosacea.
